Product Review

Girl Scout cookies are a classic American product with a rich history that goes back to 1917. There are a variety of Girl Scout cookies such as Tagalongs, Samoas, and Lemonades. However, the most popular seller, Thin Mints, are mint flavored wafers covered in chocolate. I have been looking for some time for a sugar free alternative to the Thin Mints and have found the Murray Sugar Free Fudge Dipped Mint Cookies.

As I picked up the Murray Sugar Free Fudge Dipped Mint Cookies, I have to admit I had hopes for the product because I grew up on the Girl Scout Thin Mints. The chocolate covered mint goodness has a special place in my heart so I genuinely looked forward to giving the Murray's product a try; I wanted to see if the Murray's cookies could be favorably compared to the Girl Scout classic and I came away satisfied.

Looking at the Murray Sugar Free Fudge Dipped Cookies, they certainly appeared to be Thin Mint-like cookies. They are a similar size to the Thin Mints as they are about two inches in diameter. The chocolate coating is smooth with a dark brown color and the interior mint wafer is an even darker brown shade similar to a Thin Mint.

While the outside looks the part, more importantly, the taste does as well. When you bite into the Murray Fudge Dipped Cookie, there is a nice crunch and initial mint flavor. The mint is not overpowering as it is nicely complemented by the chocolate outside. However, while the chocolate and mint combination is tasty and there is no artificial aftertaste, the flavors are not particularly strong and I would like to see a little bit more punch to them. Finally, while the crunch and starting texture are good, the is a slightly grainy finish left on your tongue when the cookies are swallowed. The graininess is not as unpleasant or as prevalent as the finish of the Hershey's Sugar Free Chocolate but there still is a graininess.

Overall, I would recommend the Murray Sugar Free Fudge Dipped Cookies as they are very close to the Girl Scout Thin Mints. The taste and crunch are both good and you are inclined to keep eating them despite the slightly grainy finish. I would not say they are as good as the Thin Mints, but then again the Murray's cookies have about 30 less calories, 5 grams less total carbs, and 10 grams less sugar per serving.
